The Museum of Gloucester is offering a unique opportunity to adopt sections of the ancient Roman mosaic floor. Crafted nearly 2,000 years ago, this intricate masterpiece once adorned the homes of Roman aristocrats and stands as a symbol of the city’s rich heritage. Carefully removed in 1914 from Oxbode lane and transported to be preserved in the museum, much of the mosaic floor is hidden beneath the carpet of the ground floor exhibits. Adopt today to discover more about Roman mosaics, preservation techniques and the objects origins in the city of Gloucester!

Tabula Game Set

The Gloucester tabula set is the earliest surviving board and complete set of counters for the game tabula, a tables game and possible predecessor of backgammon. This fascinating object made of carved bone is now on display in the museum.

Richard III's Sword

This sword is likely to be Richard III's own personal sword, given to the Mayor of Gloucester during a visit to the city in 1483.
