Tours of the King's Bastion

Two metres below the ground, The King’s Bastion contains the remains of a section of the Roman city wall with a defensive tower, probably constructed during the reign of Henry III, and is located under a trapdoor in the King’s Walk Shopping Centre, right under shoppers feet! This rarely seen gem is a sight to behold having been closed for a number of years and we are delighted to offer these regular tours again this year, including a special opening for Heritage Open Days (HODs)! 


DATES AND TIMES:  

Tours run on the following date and at the following start times of 10:30, 11:10 and 11:50

Save the date! We will also be running an additional date for HODs on Friday 11 September - timings and booking slots will be released nearer the time! 

The tour lasts approx. 30 minutes - meet by the entrance in King’s Walk Shopping Centre, Gloucester GL1 1EA (by the silver trap doors, just outside Superdrug).  


PLACES: 

Max places of 15 per tour.  


PRICES: 

  • Children: £5.50 

  • Adults: £8.00 

  • Family: £27.00 (2 adults and up to 3 children aged 5 - 16).  


PLEASE NOTE: 

  • Tours are suitable for ages 11+ (Year 7 secondary age children - no unaccompanied under 18s) 

  • Not accessible by wheelchair or suitable for those with mobility issues 

  • Please wear footwear suitable for uneven surfaces (no heels/open shoes) 

  • Pre-booking is required – we do not have capacity for walks ins. 

  • Booking fees apply.
